Using the Five Points of Inquiry to guide the structure of your work, write a 2-page MLA formatted essay inspired by your Age of Reason Art Submission 1715-1789 and Age of Reason Literature Discussion 1715-1789. Aim for 4-5 paragraphs incorporating philosophy/religion, history, arts, social life, and meaning in sequence. This is the logical progression of each unit we examine. Your examples and timelines will differ, but the methodology remains constant.

I recommend the following 5 point outline:

Start with their ideas (What philosophical or religious ideas can be understood?)
Move to historical context (What is happening when the works were made?)
Discuss their creative expression (What do visual or performing arts convey?)
Discuss one or more social forces influencing the work (political power, economic influence, racial politics, gender expressions, sexuality)
Conclude with the meaning of these works (What do they reveal about their humanity and ours?)
Consider what these works of arts and literature reveal about the philosophical, academic and scientific communities in this era. You will need to use examples appropriate to the region you choose. Let your classmates inspire your work if you have not chosen examples from the same region. Consult the Enlightenment Preview the documentslides to help you better understand the major figures in each region. Slides are not primary sources; don’t quote them directly. Your source credit is connected to your use of the literature in our textbook and arts examples you include in response to the Five Points of Inquiry.
