I agree with Higginbotham that groupthink has both positive and negative impacts on
the group. But I would say that negative implications are many compared to positive ones. I
have never been part of a group with groupthink, but I believe it might easily lead to the group’s
failure, just as Higginbotham’s group failed. This is because members of such groups always
leave the work to specific individuals whom they believe to be competent. Lastly, I agree that
assisting each other through effective communication could have assisted Higginbotham’s
group (Rose, 2011).

As the peer states, I support that in-class learning can be made more effective by setting
explicit goals with specific milestones to be accomplished. This is because team members
become motivated if they have a direction and would put more determination into attaining the
deadlines. If am the professor, I will do precisely as the peer argues. I will set SMART goals
for the learners and track their progress constantly because they will be determined to meet the
deadlines per the goals set.
