This week we will see what it is like to participate in non-experimental research. Please use your Chapter 8 and Supplemental Lecture material to help you with this.
Select one the following observational videos:

Conduct your own non-experimental observational study based on the videos. Decide what you will be observing in the video (will you look at interaction? Movement? eye contact? There are many choices).
Observe and report the behavior in two ways: quantitative and qualitative.
For the quantitative behavioral observations use this attached form as a guide or create your own based on the information in your textbook. Week 1 Coding sheet example(1).docx
For the qualitative behavioral observations, decide what you want to observe and report this in a qualitative manner.
Use Chapter 8 in your textbook as a guide. You only need to select one behavior to observe for this lab assignment.

Submit the following:
Quantitative
1. Describe what you are observing.
2. Report the Procedure. Explain exactly what and how you set up the coding. What values did you assign to which behaviors? How did you quantify the behavior (see pages 221- 225)?
3. Include your recording sheet (where you wrote down the behavior).
4. Summarize your findings in a quantitative manner. You do not need to run statistical analyses, but the way you report the information should be consistent with quantitative research.
Qualitative
1. Describe what you are observing.
2. Report the Procedure. Explain exactly how you are observing this. What type of information are you interested in? What is your behavioral category? (see pages 220- 221)? Please note the pages may differ since the attached text is a older version.
3. Include your recording sheet (where you wrote down the behaviors).
4. Summarize your findings in a qualitative manner. The way you report the information should be consistent with qualitative research.
