Strength! Resume readers want to see strong writing when they read your writing. However, all too often resumes are laden with mistakes that weaken our writing. Two of them we will address in this forum: passive voice and parallelism errors.

You are your best teacher. So I am not going to inundate you with grammar lessons on passive voice and parallelism. Instead, I am going to ask you to read about passive voice in Chapter 10 of your textbook.

DIRECTIONS: Once you think you have learned the concepts, complete the following:

1. Revise Olga Moody’s list of duties with her job at Smoke Stack’s House of BBQ by eliminating her passive phrases and making the list parallel.
2. Now that you have revised the list, discuss what impact you believe the revised list makes on the resume reader. In your opinion, would the original list turn off resume readers? Does your revised list improve the readability of the resume? How or how not?
