The COVID-19 pandemic brought forth numerous discussions of how the health care system would adequately and safely carry-out treatment for individuals and communities affected by the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic brought light to decisions often made in the health care field daily (Wibawa, 2020). As the COVID-19 vaccine was developed and made available to the public, it was important to develop a logistical plan to effectively ensure the entire population that is able would have access to these vaccines (Wibawa, 2020). Health care systems remain inequitable where not all within the system have equal access to health services whether it is from a lack of health coverage to a complete gap in resource accessibility (Wibawa, 2020). From the perspective of a public health nurse, the focus is the protection of the community by vaccinating the community from the most to least vulnerable of the population, while ensuring that even those in rural areas have access to the vaccine. The public health nurse considers the health priorities of the population. The COVID-19 pandemic brought forth uncertainty and shifted the focus of community health. While the literature focuses on vaccines, it is important to consider other prevention methods to provide a multi-faceted approach to address perceived and actual priorities within specified populations.
