The Paris Agreement on climate control

Description

1. This should be addressed to Carrie Russell,

The Paris Agreement on climate control is an agreement signed by 195 nations to bring together the world in an effort to save the environment. The goal of the Paris Agreement is to keep the global average temperature within 2 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. The agreement requires developed countries to provide financial assistance to developing countries and assist with technology and transfer. The agreement allows each country to set decide how to achieve less greenhouse gas emissions (McKenzie, 2018). At the time, the United States agreed to lower annual greenhouse gas emissions by 26-28 percent by 2025. The Obama administration was heading the nation when this agreement was signed. They pledged $3M to developing nations by 2020. The United States is the second largest emitter of carbon behind China (Fox, 2017).

During President Trump’s campaign, he pledged to retreat from the Paris Agreement. The Trump administration made this happen June, 2017. The Trump administration says that the agreement will cost Americans 2.7 million jobs by 2025. President Trump wants environmental laws to benefit Americans, and is open to renegotiations. “It would once have been unthinkable that an international agreement could prevent the U.S. from conducting its own domestic affairs,” said President Trump (Shear, 2017, pg.2). Vice-President Mike Pence says that the Trump administration is putting American jobs and consumers first by backing out of the Paris Agreement (Fox, 2017).

The question is if I agree or disagree with the decision by the Trump administration. Honestly, I am not sure. I have researched the Paris Agreement, but there is still a lot that I do not know or understand. One article said that the agreement would not slow global warming enough; however, it was progress (Gabreldar, 2018). I am a Republican that voted for Trump; however, I do not always agree with everything he does and says. I do feel like he wants what is best for Americans. Like him or not, Donald Trump is our president, and he deserves the respect of the American people.

2. This should be addressed to Juquana Harris,

I will admit that I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to issues pertaining to politics. However, I find the information regarding the Paris Agreement to be both informative and beneficial. I am very aware that climate change is due in part human to activity and technology such as emissions, so I think it’s great that this issue is being seriously addressed. According to the United Nations website, I have learned that, on November 4th, 2016 The United Nations convened to form a concession which is called The Paris Agreement. Within the confines of this agreement, individuals from from various nations came together in an effort to combat and address all things related to climate change, which is a real threat and the effects of climate change do not go unnoticed.

Overall, the of this effort is to develop coping mechanisms, amongst the various countries, to make it easier to adapt to the climate change. Furthermore, strategies are in place for ways to maintain a stable temperatures, preferably below two degrees celsius, with a goal of eventually keeping the temperatures below 1.5 degrees celsius. I can not say that I agree with the Trump Administration’s reasoning behind withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, especially the if one considers the statistics regarding the part that the United States plays regarding climate change. “Regrettably, the United States has been one of the top carbon dioxide emitters for the past five years, with the greatest contribution coming from energy and heat production”(Weatherholtz, 2018, p. 584-585). Nonetheless, it the United States is still making efforts to combat climate change within the confines of the country, by allowing each state to the freedom to determine how they will handle climate control efforts.
