The instructions for this assignment are detailed below.

Choose one of the following prompts:

1) What gets taught AND what should get taught?

2) What is the purpose of public schools AND how has the purpose changed over time?

The paper should be 4-5 pages long. The paper should make a clear argument, based on evidence. Your point of view must be clear, as well as the evidence that supports your point of view. The argument may either be about the historical interpretation of the documents or about current events but it must be clear and specific.

The paper must include:

A specific citation from at least two primary sources among Fraser (2019), The School in the United States (attached below). Making comparisons among primary sources is strongly encouraged.
3-5 external sources apart from Fraser.

The paper should also:

1) Indicate a sense of history and the change over time.

2) Have a clear point of view that is stated in the first paragraph. Have a point of view, which is made clear in the first paragraph; and

3) Focuses on one specific aspect instead of trying to cover several topics in the paper itself.

4) Use specific examples rather than generalizations

5) Uses evidence that reinforces your argument

6) Provides analysis –– your perspective on the evidence you present
