What is the relationship between crime and punishment?

How does Young Goodman Brown truly come to know something about human nature and to know himself in the process? Does he end up supposing that he “knows” more about life or the human condition than he really does?

Question Description

First Question (The readings that I have choosen are down below ):

Using support from at least 2 of the readings from this module, please answer the following questions:

  • What is the relationship between crime and punishment?
  • How do societies distinguish between what is just and what is legal?
  • Who decides what acts constitute crimes, and what appropriate punishment might be?

Question Two :

Consider the logical problem of evil as presented here:

a) If God exists, then God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent.
b) If God is omnipotent, then God has the power to eliminate all evil.
c) If God is omniscient, then God knows when evil exists.
d) If God is omnibenevolent, then God has the desire to eliminate all evil.
e) Evil exists.
f) If evil exists and God exists, then either God doesn’t have the power to eliminate all evil, or doesn’t know when evil exists, or doesn’t have the desire to eliminate all evil.
g) Therefore, God doesn’t exist.

Is this a sound argument? If not, which premise(s) would you reject and why? Explain and discuss with your peers.
